BRANDING, RETAIL AND MISC
After graduating from Harvard I spent three years (1997 - 2000) working for Jon Jerde, an under-appreciated mass-culture visionary, learning the ins and outs of retail branding, casino and shopping mall design, and the commercial development process. While there I shepherded his monograph 'You Are Here' (Phaidon Press) into publication.
This lead to consulting work and over an eight-year period I advised large and small companies on strategy, branding and directional design concepts. I spent a year working for ad firm Ogilvy as a strategist on a global retail strategy for Motorola, and a directional store installation for Reebok. I also consulted to smaller companies, including social and environmental entrepreneurs and nonprofits like Los Ninos, a nonprofit organization that promotes nutrition and wellness in the San Diego/Tijuana border region.
I've also enjoyed collaborating with artists on art installations and set designs including the VDay Yurt & The Tract House with Lisa Anne Auerbach, and a set design for the reenactment at LACE of Allan Kaprow’s seminal 18/6 happening for MOCA as part of its Allan Kaprow: Art as Life show.
