THE NOMAD YURT
I designed and manufactured the Nomad Yurt, a modernized version of the timeless Mongolian yurt, now with an eco-friendly bamboo frame. The Nomad yurt was featured in numerous blogs and publications, named "the country's best yurt" by Dwell Magazine, and nominated for a Cooper-Hewitt Peoples' Design Award.
The project introduced a new way of thinking about small-scale living and portable structures and was influential in the Tiny Home movement that emerged later.
I set up a Tijuana, Mexico-based manufacturing process and planned to produce a range of similar shelter products. But my timing was off and when the 2008 recession hit the project failed.
